ANC NEC on Mbeki recall

Our most important task as a revolutionary movement is the stability of our country and the unity and cohesion of the ANC. In the light of this, the ANC has decided to recall President of the Republic [Mbeki] before his term of office expires. The formalities are now subject of a Parliamentary process.

YCL on Mbeki recall

YCL welcomes decision of ANC NEC to recall the President of the Republic, Mr Thabo Mbeki, and calls on cabinet ministers not to resign and on youth in particular to accept and defend the ANC decision.

Thabo Mbeki recalled

ANC statement not yet available. At televised press conference ANC S-G Gwede Mantashe announced that Thabo Mbeki has been recalled from the Presidency of the country and will resign, after which Parliamentary processes will take over.

Woolworths strike may continue

SACCAWU has extended Woolworths strike notice. Today's CT Waterfront and Pavilion Durban actions were inderdicted. Workers’ meetings will be held countrywide Sunday to get mandate to continue strike from Monday and to call for multiple solidarity actions.

Agreement on temporary teachers

SADTU hails the agreements to absorb temporary teachers into the permanent establishment with the provincial departments of education in Mpumalanga, Eastern Cape and Limpopo.

Mbeki gone?

The Weekender (Johannesburg) in a special second edition reports "Mbeki Gone". News24 reports that "The ANC has denied the [Weekender] report".

FIFA meets ANC President

FIFA President Sepp Blatter concluded his 4-day in SA stay on Wednesday with a visit to ANC President Jacob Zuma at Luthuli House. They discussed the 2010 World Cup and the state of the SA national team, Bafana Bafana.

Mbeki Press Release

Swaziland protest memorandum

The carnage must stop!

127 mine fatalities this year is absolutely unacceptable. COSATU supports NUM policy of downing tools every time a worker dies. By refusing to go down ERPM, the DME is admitting that the mine is not safe.

Too dangerous for inspectors

Department of Minerals and Energy inspectors refused to inspect the ERPM shaft where mineworkers lost their lives. This attitude tells a story of a dangerous workplace. NUM calls for the release of the Presidential Safety Audit Report. NUM wants big heads to roll at ERPM for their negligence.

Waterfront will close

COSATU members will join Woolworths workers to close Cape Town Waterfront tomorrow (Saturday) following Waterfront-based Woolworths’ refusal to recognise unions representing their workers.

Four more miners die

Four mineworkers lost their lives in two accidents last night and this morning. First was at DRD Gold’s ERPM, Boksburg, second at Anglogold Ashanti’s Savuka, Carletonville. Mineworkers continue to die like flies. (NUM)

Platinum miner dies

Angloplatinum’s Amandebult mine in Rustenburg claimed another life. Injured miner succumbed to burn wounds suffered while working underground. 123 miners have died this year (NUM).

Woolworths Strike

Chibebe and Matombo remanded to SC

Harare magistrate today granted the ZCTU leaders the right to have their freedom of expression case heard at the Supreme Court. Matombo and Chibebe are remanded until 5 December 2008.
